My name is Stephen (although most people call me Dows). I have worked in the charitable sector and Students' Unions for over ten years. Working in both the private and third sector. I have helped train and develop hundred's of people in skills around leadership, facilitation, public speaking and campaigning.
Along with that I have spent most of my career working to improve democracy and governance in charities and membership organisations. I want to help more people be the change they want to see in the world. Which is why I created Stand & Be Counted.
My training is designed to be both flexible and bespoke for any client.
I mix practical activities and games with group work to help everyone learn in their own way.
If you are looking to change your system of governance or making decision making easier for your members then I can help.
Who I’ve Worked With
In a previous life I was a President at the University of Teesside Students' Union, which made me the person you see today.
I am a former 'chugger', magician, shelf stacker, white liner, activist and a former defender of democracy and activism at Leeds University Union.
By pure fluke I also find myself working for the Sheffield Steelers (Ice Hockey Club) doing audio and PA stuff. Which I like a lot.
I love training and developing people, especially around areas such as public speaking, how to campaign effectively, how to get elected in Students' Union and how to chair/ facilitate effectively. You can even hire me to come and do some of this stuff for your organisation if that's your thing.
I have compered charity auctions in front of 100's of corporate sponsors and I speak to 6,000 fans every weekend in the Sheffield Arena. I have hosted shows on PremierSports and provided colour commentary on SteelersTV. Me and microphones have a good relationship.
I have helped manage and grow the Social Media presence of both charitable and corporate organisations.
